Belmont School Crossing Guard Retires After 34 Years

Belmont Crossing Guard Joan DiPace has been guiding students safely to school since 1986.

BELMONT, MA — Instead of waving kids over to school safely, a familiar face in Belmont is waving goodbye.

Belmont School Crossing Guard Joan DiPace retired after 34 years on the job. A fixture in the Belmont community, DiPace was one of the first faces students saw on their way into class. Over the last several years, DiPace worked at the intersection of School and Cottage Street.

"If you or your children attended Belmont Public Schools from 1986 until last year, then chances are, School Crossing Guard Joan DiPace helped you cross the street safely," a post from the Belmont Police Department read.
