Dec. 4th Fundraiser to Honor Belmont's Cleo Theodoropulos

The Dedham Savings Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer™ Frozen 5K will raise funds for local cancer centers

The Skating Club of Boston, one of the country’s preeminent skating clubs, will host The Dedham Savings Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer™ Frozen 5k in memory of Cleo Theodoropulos on Saturday, December 4th from 10:00 am-12:00 pm at their West Rink.

Cleo, who was 16 years old, was a Club member from Belmont, MA, who was treated at Dana-Farber and passed away from cancer in 2019.

“Cleo Theodoropulos was one of the brightest lights in our Club’s community,” said Katharine Steeger, Director of Membership Services at The Skating Club of Boston. “She always had a big smile and exuded job and laughter whenever possible. As someone who has a personal connection with cancer as well, a wonderful way in which to honor someone who is fighting cancer, or who may have passed from the disease, is to give the gift of hope and support to someone else with cancer. Because the line is long and the need is real. And that is why this event is so important to everyone at our skating club.”

The event will be sponsored by Dedham Savings and monies raised will benefit, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Mass General Brigham, and the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation, which supports cancer research, education, and survivorship.

“Cleo had a big impact on those who knew her, including those of us at Dana-Farber who had the privilege of taking care of her during her brief battle against cancer,” said Dr. A. Lindsay Frazier, Pediatric Oncologist, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. “As a young teenager undergoing treatment at Dana-Farber, we shared with Cleo and her parents our developing plans for a Center for Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology (CAYAO) that would serve young people by providing both a set-aside waiting room that would allow connections with others her age while also addressing specific teen and young adult issues like fertility preservation. My CAYAO co-director, Dr. Ann LaCasce, and I are so grateful to the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation and The Skating Club of Boston for organizing and hosting Sk8 to Elimin8 in memory of Cleo and in support of CAYAO.”
