Essential Monday: One-Time Only Performance of 'Some Buddy'
Belmont in August: board shorts, no socks, knit shirts,

This has to be the sleepiest week this summer in Belmont so finding five "essential" events to write about ... well. So here they are:
1. The highly anticipated one-and-only performance of 'Some Buddy' based on a summer's worth of drama workshops by the middle school students who make up the Voices from the Middle Players, will be held in the Assembly Room of the Belmont Public Library on Wednesday at 7 p.m. It's free and open to all!
2. The demolition of Joey's Park begins on Monday, Aug. 5. Sorry, no dynamite needed for this job but there will be big trucks and construction equipment there.
3. Join the Belmont Energy Committee and Next Step Living on Wednesday, Aug. 7, for a presentation about Total Climate Control, an advanced technology combines heating and cooling into a single high efficiency system. A one-hour presentation will be followed by Q&A beginning at 7 p.m. in the Flett Room of the Belmont Public Library.
4. For all you adventurous opera lovers, head down with your lawn chairs and picnic dinners to Boston's Hatch Shell this Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. as the Boston Lyric Opera and Boston Landmarks Orchestra serves up some of opera's greatest hits under the stars.
5. Indigo Fire at 60 Concord Ave. is holding a fun workshop on Thursday, Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. on how to make Glass Votive Candle Holders. No experience necessary. They will teach you everything! $30 for a set.
