Fourth Night of Town Meeting Tonight

Likely to be final day of Session A; yes there's more to come later this and next month.

Belmont's annual Town Meeting will resume for its fourth, and likely "final" night at 7 p.m. in Belmont High School's auditorium.

The final night, that is, of Session A, which includes all non-budgetary articles presented to the 2013 Town Meeting.

The approximately 300 Town Meeting members will hear and hopefully vote on two major articles; a storm water management by-law and a senior tax abatement.

The order of Wednesday's meeting will be:

• Article 24: A new enterprise fund for a new storm water management system is expected to be dismissed.

Article 23: The creation of a by-law that will create a storm water management plan. This is essentially a federal government dictate that towns establish and pay for updated water standards and pollution controls. There is an amendment from Robert McGaw that will exempt gardening from the plan.

Article 25: Raise the Senior Tax Abatement from $750 to $1,000 for residents greater than 60 years old who volunteer their services to the town.

After tonight, the Town Meeting will next meet for a Special Town Meeting on May 29 where the members will discuss and vote on non-budgetary articles including a residential snow removal by-law and a resident's amendment that would place a moratorium on building two or more unit residences on the site of single-family homes.

The town's budgets as well as the Demolition Delay by-law proposal will be taken up on June 3 and 5.
