Joey's Park Auction Ends This Saturday

Winning bidders will help fund the new playground.

Bike with a state senator, raft down a river, enjoy dinner out or bring in a party planner.

Dozen of one of a kind opportunities and works of art are now up for bid in the on-line Joey's Park auction.

"We really do have something for everybody," said Ellen Schreiber, co-chair of the Friends of Joey's Park, a volunteer group of more than 80 Belmont families working to build a new park adjacent to the Winn Brook Elementary School that maintains the magic and honors the history of the original playground built in 1989 in the memory of Joey O'Donnell.

"Whether you want to take in a Red Sox game or purchase a one-of-a-kind work of art, here's your opportunity. And, of course, it helps pay for the new playground."

Among the items up for bid are art projects created by students at the Winn Brook Elementary School. Students in each class worked together to create a unique piece of art.

"We thought it would be fun to get kids and teachers involved in the auction," said Diane Miller, Friend's of Joey's Park other co-chair.

"The pieces they created are simply stunning."

Money raised in the auction will help pay for a new playground. The new park will be built this Oct. 9 to 14 with help from hundreds of volunteers.
