Leave Bags of Food for Your Postal Carrier in Belmont Saturday

The 21st annual food drive Saturday morning, May 11.

Usually your postal carrier is making a delivery to your mailbox. On Saturday, you can leave your own delivery and help those in need in and around town.

Working with the Greater Boston Food Bank and the Belmont Food Pantry, the National Association of Letter Carriers, Branch 34, will take part in the 21st annual Food Drive this Saturday, May 11.

The food drive, which involves thousands of carriers across the United States who collect nonperishable food and deposit it at local food banks, has become the nation's largest one-day food drive.

Residents are being asked to leave a bag of non-perishable food beside their mail box or slot on Friday evening, May 10, and your letter carrier will pick up the bag when they deliver your mail on Saturday.

When the carriers finish delivering the mail, they bring the collected food to the Belmont Food Pantry. Annually, Belmont residents donate more than 5,000 pounds of food during the summer, the slowest time of the year for collections.
