Music, Tastings and Storytelling at the Belmont Farmers Market

The market is open from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Belmont Center.

A duo devoted to playing at farmers markets and a children's ensemble perform this week at the Belmont Farmers Market which will take place from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Claflin Street Parking Lot in Belmont Center.

This week's occasional vendors include Belmont Municipal Light Department (compact fluorescent bulbs and energy tips), Coutts Specialty Foods (jams, jellies, apple sauce, fruit butters, cranberry sauce, relishes, piccalilli), Nobscot Artisan Cheese (handmade cheese using raw milk from local farms), Sara Ran Away with the Spoon (baked goods, including brownies and bundt cakes), and Westport Rivers Winery.

Nicewicz Family Farm (seasonal produce) joins the market this week for the rest of the season.

This week's Market Music

2 p.m. to 3:15 pm: The Farewells

The Farewells—Peter and Samantha "Sam" Linnane—are Boxborough residents and creative partners in a musical endeavor that has taken them on a tour of area farmers markets. The duo have released two CDs on their label. "The Shady Tree" was produced using vintage recording equipment and two-inch reel-to-reel tape. The music was arranged with acoustic guitars, pianos, concertinas, pump organs, pianos, drums, and toy pianos to achieve a natural, outdoorsy sound. 5 p.m. to 5:20 pm: Music on the Hill Chamber Music Ensemble 

The MOTH Fiddle Group is composed of 8 violinists, 2 violists, and 2 cellists ranging in age from 9–13.They will perform a variety of traditional fiddle music, from Irish to bluegrass and the blues.

3:15 pm: Kids' Storytime  

All preschoolers welcome to readings about farms and food.  

4 p.m. to 5 pm: Cafe Burrito tasting 

Specializing in "Mission-style" burritos and seasonal salsas, Cafe Burrito is located next door to the Studio Cinema in Belmont. Burritos, tacos, combination grilled cheese/quesadillas, and much more are on offer for lunch and dinner, as well as coffee, tea, fruit, smoothies, and pastries.

The Market accepts and matches SNAP benefits, so please spread the word so that more can take advantage of fresh good.

Also, bring nonperishables to the Farmers' Market tent to benefit the Belmont Food Pantry.
