Pet owners place a great deal of trust in the people who care for their animal companions while they are away during the day. Not only do they entrust the well being of their pets to a service or individual to feed and taking them out for a walk, owners provide "walkers" with the keys to their homes. And sometimes, that trust can be given to the wrong person.
On Aug. 31, at around 4:03 p.m., a Dean Street resident reported to police that she believed the person employed by a dog walking service she uses was responsible for items of her jewelry to go missing. Belmont Police contacted the service and then interviewed the walker. Police report the walker did admit to the theft. But the victim will not be recovering her items: the walker took the gold jewelry and melted it before selling the lump for cash. The victim said the value of the jewelry was about $3,500. While police continue to label the case as under investigation, the dog walking service did pay to have all the locks changed in the house.
