This Weekend in Belmont: Croquet on the Homer House Lawn
Events occurring in Belmont over the weekend.

• Today is Belmont Town Day. Sponsored by the Belmont Center Business Associaton and Belmont Savings Bank, the festivities will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 18. Almost too much to do; from sampling food, visiting more than 60 tables set up by merchants and local groups, buying raffle tickets, viewing the animals at the Fire House, riding the kiddy carnival rides, listening to music, admiring classic cars and much more.
• Recreate the famous croquet matches depicted by artist Winslow Homer at the location he stetched the games 150 year ago as the Belmont Woman's Club invites families to play the game on Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for free in the front lawn of the Homer House, 661 Pleasant St, (across from Town Hall) just above Belmont Center. There will be casual croquet games and children's painting on the front lawn, plus a complimentary first-floor walkthrough of the mansion's first floor. The club is celebrating the Homer House's 160th anniversary.
• The Benton Library, Belmont's independent library, is holding its monthly book sale on Saturday, May 18 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Reasonably priced books include a small selection of antiquarian and military history books, fiction, non-fiction and children’s books. Proceeds benefit the Benton Library. The library is open on the third Saturday of every month.
