After Cool, Dry Finish, Summer Ends with Wettest July 4th Ever

Meteorological summer has ended, with rain far below average and temperatures on par with historical averages.

Despite a cool August, the summer of 2014 was exactly “average” according to the National Weather Service.

For June, July and August - considered meteorological summer - the average temperature in greater Boston averaged 71.1 degrees, which is exactly average, down to the tenth of a degree. June and July were both .7 degrees above average, but August was 1.3 degrees below average.

This comes as the start to September has had some sweltering days, with temperatures into the upper 80s on several days and above 90 on two days.
