BEVERLY, MA — The Beverly-based Massachusetts Task Force 1 urban search-and-rescue team continued its efforts in North Carolina into a second week as the 45 members deployed searched for victims of catastrophic Hurricane Helene.

Task Force 1 members — most emergency service workers from throughout New England volunteering for the deployments nationwide in cases of crisis and destruction — have spent the week in rural North Carolina where more than two feet of rain fell, along with high winds from the storm that hit the Florida coast as a Category 4 hurricane.

"MA-TF1 continues in their mission in North Carolina," MA Task Force 1 spokesman Thomas Gatzunis said. "The team is conducting operations on both land and in the water.
