Seasoned Politicians Fall In Beverly City Council Races
A longtime city councilman and a school committee member running for council lost to candidates elected to office for the first time.

BEVERLY, MA — Kathleen Feldman will join Beverly City Council after upsetting incumbent Don Martin in the Ward 5 race in Tuesday's election. Feldman defeated Martin by a margin of 735-657, according to unofficial results.
Stacy Ames defeated Beverly School Committee member Kris Silverstein for the Ward 3 City Council seat, according to unofficial results. At-large City Councilor Paul M. Guanci will become city council president after being the top vote-getter of the three at-large city councilors who ran unopposed for reelection.
In the only other contested race on the ballot, John Mullady won reelection by defeating Jeffrey Silva in the Ward 4 School Committee race.

With no contested, city-wide races, voter turnout was sluggish on a rainy election day. As of 6 p.m., 5,196 voters, or 18 percent of the total number of registered voters in Beverly, had cast ballots. That was up from 2 p.m., when turnout was only 11 percent. The highest totals were in the wards where there were contested races for city council or school committee.
