Beverly Fire Crews Knock Down Wallis Street Staircase Blaze

The Beverly Fire Department said the fire was contained to the rear staircase of a building near the intersection of Cabot Street.

BEVERLY, MA — Beverly fire crews were able to contain a blaze with heavy smoke in the rear staircase of a Wallis Street building before it extended to the rest building on Saturday night.

The Beverly Fire Department said a Good Samaritan reported the fire before evacuating the building and that Beverly police assisted with alerting neighbors to evacuate as well.

"The fire was quickly brought under control before it could extend into the building," BFD said "Firefighters spent more than an hour digging out hot spots and ventilating smoke from the building."
