Beverly Firefighters Get Assist From Residents With Garden Hoses

Beverly firefighters arrived at a wind-driven brush fire to find residents and police officers battling it with garden hoses.

BEVERLY, MA —Beverly firefighters had some help from neighbors and police officers in what could have been a serious fire Wednesday.

Firefighters received a call of a large shed fire threatening homes while they were downtown responding to a motor vehicle crash around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday. By the time Engine 3 arrived at Pickman Road, residents and police officers had unfurled garden hoses to contain the blaze.

Firefighters kept the fire from spreading from the shed to abutting garages and homes on Pickman Road. Crews spent more than an hour wetting the area and digging out hot spots.
