Beverly Rain Total Surpasses 5 Inches, Some to Wait Until 3 p.m. to Get Power Restored

The Nor'easter that moved in Wednesday morning is still roaring after 5 inches of rain and heavy wind battered Beverly.

More than 5 inches of rain has fallen on Beverly since the Nor’easter started on Wednesday morning and some residents will have to wait until 3 p.m. to get power restored.

The weather station at Beverly Airport surpassed 5 inches of rain from the storm between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Thursday. A total of 5.34 inches of rain fell since Wednesday, as of 9 a.m. Thursday. The bulk of the rain fell between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Thursday.

National Grid said the 534 homes and businesses without power as of 9 a.m. would have power back by 3 p.m. on Thursday. The largest areas still without power were Nelson Avenue in North Beverly, Hale Street near Endicott College, Beaver Pond Road and Echo Avenue off Elliott Street.

The power outage forced Endicott College to close for the day on Thursday. The Beverly Public Schools were open for the day.
