Beverly Ranked Second Safest City on North Shore
Chelsea topped a list of the state's most dangerous cities complied by Law Media and Beverly ended in the safer half of the list.

Chelsea is the most dangerous community in Massachusetts, according to a new report, and Beverly is the second safest city on the North Shore.
Law Street, which covers law and public policy, released its “Safest and Most Dangerous States” list.

The rankings only included cities with a population of 25,000 or more. Rankings were based on the ratio of violent crimes compared to population. The data was taken from the FBI’s most recent Uniform Crime Report.
Massachusetts was ranked No. 20 in terms of most dangerous states in the country. Here’s a list of its most dangerous cities, according to Law Media’s report:

1. Chelsea (pop. 35,966): 666 violent crimes
2. Brockton (95,156): 1,088
3. New Bedford (96,031): 1,030
4. Fall River (89,753): 954
5. Springfield (154,518): 1,606
6. Lawrence (77,661): 785
7. Worcester (183,247): 1,758
8. Holyoke (40,260): 382
9. Boston (630,648): 5,266
10. Lynn (91,846): 754
Beverly was No. 45 on the list of 72 communities with a violent crime rate of 206. There were 83 violent crimes, with 62 aggravated assaults, 13 robberies, 8 forcible rapes and no murders. The only other North Shore cities ranked safer on the list “most dangerous cities” list was Gloucester at No. 58.
