Beverly Set To Restore Two-Century-Old Building
The Beverly Powder House was built on Prospect Hill in 1809 but has been deteriorating in recent years.

BEVERLY, MA — City Council will consider a $35,000 funding request that would allow contractors to begin restoring the Beverly Powder House on Prospect Hill. The structure, which was built in 1809 as a storage building for the city's militia, has fallen into disrepair in the recent years. The restoration would include repairs to the exterior brickwork, roof and wooden door.
Beverly's militia was formed in the Colonial period and all men in the city between the ages of 16 and 40 were required to join and attend regular training sessions, according to Historic Beverly. The militia disbanded in 1840.
