Beverly Teen Honored For Life-Saving Efforts
Jonah Bellew Day was honored for performing the Heimlich maneuver on his choking manager at at Salty's Lobster Shack at Lynch Park.

BEVERLY, MA — A Beverly teen whose quick action may have saved the life of his manager who was choking at Lynch Park last summer was honored with the proclamation of Jonah Bellew Day in the city of Beverly at Monday night's City Council meeting.
Day, now an 18-year-old senior at Beverly High School, was an employee at Salty's Lobster Shack at Lynch Park last June when he saw his manager choking. After directing a nearby person to call 911, he quickly performed the Heimlich maneuver, clearing the obstruction and potentially saving the manager's life before Emergency Medical Services or public safety arrived.
The City Council and Mayor Mike Cahill proclaimed Feb. 3 in honor of Day for his "quick thinking and calm demeanor in a crisis" as "saving another's life is among the highest service one can give."
