Beverly Body Recovered From Water An 'Apparent Drowning': Police Chief

UPDATE: Beverly Police Chief John LeLacheuer said the body was recovered near the Bass River Yacht Club early Tuesday afternoon.

UPDATED 2:15 p.m.

BEVERLY, MA — A body recovered from the water near the Bass River Yacht Club early Tuesday afternoon is being investigated as an "apparent drowning," according to Beverly Police Chief John LeLacheur.

Several emergency services reports said Beverly police and fire crews responded to the area of 10 McPherson Drive at around noon for a person who had fallen into the water.

LaLacheur said first responders discovered the body and that a Beverly Fire Dive Team recovered it before the body was taken to Beverly Hospital, where the person was pronounced dead.

"The Beverly Police Department, in collaboration with the Essex County District Attorney's Office, will investigate the death, but a preliminary investigation revealed no signs of foul play," LeLacheur said
