Depot Parking Garage Opens Saturday, Ribbon Cut on Friday

The Beverly Depot parking garage will open to cars for the first time on Saturday.

The new 500-car parking garage near Beverly Depot will open for the first time on Saturday, the MBTA has announced.

Gov. Deval Patrick will come to Beverly on Friday to cut the ribbon on the project, off Court and Rantoul streets.

The ribbon cutting is scheduled for 12:45 p.m.

The $34 million project has been under construction since February 2013.

It is one of several new parking garages on the North Shore. Another parking garage is under construction at the Salem commuter rail station and a garage opened in 2012 at the Wonderland stop on the blue line in Revere.

The parking rate will be $5 for the first 14 hours and $12 after 14 hours, with a $12.00 charge for each additional day.

Beverly Depot is one of the busiest stations on the commuter rail network and the project has been discussed and under consideration for many years. Patrick was in Beverly in 2009 to announce the project would move ahead.
