Man Arrested for Attempted Murder Over Labor Day Weekend

The following is an excerpt from the log:
Friday, Aug. 31
- Police were called to Bridge Street and Giles Avenue at 4:14 a.m. on report of three men checking vehicles in the area. When police arrived they had already left. An hour later, at 5:19 a.m., they were reported near Virginia Avenue.
- A mailbox was reported stolen on Virginia Avenue at 7:24 a.m.
- A fight was reported in a Cabot Street parking lot at 9:36 a.m.
- Police assisted Animal Control with a rabid raccoon discovered on Yankee Way at 9:48 a.m.
- Graffiti was reported on Park Street at 12:08 p.m.
- Police assisted a family with a child locked in a vehicle on Elliott Street at 2:23 p.m.
- Police were called to Whitney Avenue at 3 p.m. on report of a disturbance between a mother and children.
- Police were called to Cabot Street on report of a suspicious man taking pictures from a roof at 3:07 p.m. Police discovered the man was a Montserrat student doing a photography project.
- Police discovered a man drinking vodka in the Western Union parking lot at 3:10 p.m. Reports stated he was issues an open container citation, and was told to walk home.
- At 6:06 p.m. police responded to Bridge Street and Bates Park Avenue on report of a disoriented woman walking around naked.
- An assault was reported on Hardy Street at 8:42 p.m.
- At 9 p.m., police arrested Yago Dasilva, 20, of 46 Walnut St. in Peabody, on charges of operating an unlicensed vehicle, lights violations, and a warrant charge.
- At 11:10 p.m. police dispersed five car loads of teens who were in the Cherry Hill Drive area.
Saturday, Sept. 1

- Youths were reported putting debris in the roadway on Tozer Road at 12:15 a.m. Police notified the parents of the situation and advised them of potential consequences.
- Police were called to Abbott Street at 1:24 a.m. on report of a loud group. Police searched the area but did not find anyone.
- Police were called to an Ashton Street residence at 1:35 a.m. on report of two people allegedly arguing over $5. Police said both parties agreed to quiet down and go inside.
- Police discovered a vehicle on Cabot Street at 3:47 a.m. with the driver's door wide open and all power windows rolled down. Police shut the door, but were unable to make contact with the vehicle owner.
- Police were called to Mill Street at 10:37 a.m. on report of a woman who was locked outside her house, while her baby was inside. When police arrived she had already gained entrance inside.
- Police were called to Rantoul Street at 2:57 p.m. on report of a highly intoxicated man stumbling on the street. Police said the individual had lacerations on his hands and knees from falling. He was transported to the hospital.
- Police were dispatched to Elliott Street on report of a person who had been 'thrown from a vehicle' at 8:48 p.m. Police did not find any victims in the area.
- At 9:27 p.m. police arrested Scott Guy, 52, of 8 Appleton Ave., on charges of assault by means of a dangerous weapon.
Sunday, Sept. 2
- Police were called to Dane Street Beach at 12:41 a.m. on report of bottle rockets. Police did not locate anyone in the park.
- A loud group on a swing set on Lothrop Street was reported at 1:51 a.m. Police dispersed the group.
- Police were called to Rantoul Street at 4:55 a.m. on report of two intoxicated people arguing. Police advised them to go home.
- An individual found a dog on Common Lane reportedly running in traffic at 9:34 a.m. The dog was turned over to the city's dog officer.
- Police were dispatched to Beckford Street at 4:23 p.m. on report of a violent fight. Police arrested Santos Galarza Junior, 18, on three counts of assault and battery (two of the three counts with a dangerous weapon), and attempted murder.
- A suspicious man was reported laying on a bench on Livingstone Avenue at 4:35 p.m.
- At 9:12 p.m., police stopped a vehicle on Cabot Street for a loud exhaust. When police asked for his license, he gave them an Irish license and passport, and claimed he has been in the United States for a year. Police advised him to get a Massachusetts license.
- At 9:53 p.m. police received report of a young male urinating on a Haskell Street lawn.
- At 9:58 p.m. police arrested William Dujsik, 34, of 19 Budleigh Ave., on charges of operating under the influence of liquor and a lights violation.
- Police were called to Ober Street on report of a party on the beach at 11:37 p.m. Police cleared the kids who were swimming in the ocean.

- An assault and battery was reported on Hardy Street at 12:31 a.m. Police arrested Walter Smith, 46, of 63 New Ocean St. in Swampscott, on charges of domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
