Man Seriously Injured When He's Struck by Car, Gets Trapped Underneath

A 20-year-old man suffered serious injured after he became trapped under a car that struck him in a North Beverly parking lot on Wednesday

A man who was struck by a car and then got stuck underneath the car was rescued by emergency crews on Wednesday morning.

The rescue happened just before 9 a.m. near the intersection of Cabot and Dodge streets, just across the street from the North Beverly fire station in the parking lot near Dunkin Donuts and Santander bank.

Police said a 20-year-old male from Maryland was pinned under a Nissan Altima and was still breathing. Beverly Fire Department firefighters used air bags to lift the vehicle off of the man, who was then taken by Northeast Ambulance Service to Beverly Hospital with “severe injuries,” police said.

The driver, James Anderson, 34, of Arkansas told police that he turned into the lot and was looking in the opposite direction at the time of the accident. Anderson will be issued a summons for operating to endanger.

The two men did not know each other, said Officer Michael Boccuzzi, a police spokesman.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Beverly Hospital, at first, where a MedFlight helicopter was called. A helicopter could not fly because of the weather so he was taken by ambulance to the Lahey Trauma Unit in Burlington.
