Beverly Harbormaster Peter Dickman welcomed students to the Beverly Police Department’s Community Room where members of the Beverly unit of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary recently taught two “Boat America” courses. These one-day, eight hour classes teach basic boating skills to new boaters and remind more experienced mariners how to remain safe on the water. Covering required safety equipment, nautical “rules of the road”, basic first aid, and heavy weather preparedness, courses like this will become mandatory over the next few years for recreational boaters of all ages. An additional “Boat America” course will be offered by the US Coast Guard Auxiliary in October.
