BOSTON — Police announced they've arrested two men in connection with a July 4 shooting that sent an 8-year-old and a 35-year-old to the hospital. Both lived, but it kicked off a public request for help in finding out just who did it. This weekend officers arrested Ian King, 28, of Dorchester and Nathas Jacquecine, 31, of Boston and charged them both with assault with intent to murder, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon (gun), unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. Both are scheduled to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on Monday, July 15.

“Senseless gun violence and those who engage in it have no place in our parks, playgrounds or neighborhoods," said Boston Police Commissioner William Gross in a statement. "An innocent 8-year-old girl most certainly has the right to celebrate the 4th of July and play with friends without the fear of hurt, harm or injury."

Police said they were called to the corner of Dudley and Folsom streets just before 11 p.m. where they found a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds at Mary Hannon Park in Dorchester.

He was taken to a hospital where he was in critical condition. The child, who may have been related to him, was shot in the foot and was also taken to a hospital, where she was in stable condition, police said.

Eight days later, police announced they found two men in Mattapan they believe were responsible.
