$6.1 Billion Celtics Sale Approved By NBA
The deal for the private equity director William Chisholm to purchase the Celtics was reached in March.
BOSTON, MA — One of the NBA's most decorated franchises has officially changed ownership hands after the league approved the $6.1 billion sale of the Boston Celtics.
The Associated Press reported that the sale to private equity director William Chisholm was unanimously approved on Wednesday.
That $6.1 billion price tag is the largest for any American professional sports team. The previous record belonged to billionaire Josh Harris' $6.05 billion purchase of the NFL's Washington Commanders last summer.

The Celtics find themselves in an interesting spot on the court heading into the new season. After an offseason that saw them offload talent as they anticipate a year without star Jayson Tatum, it's unclear if the team will be able to maintain its status as championship contender, at least for this season.
