Boston Marathon Postponed; Fall Date Targeted
The Boston Marathon was postponed amid coronavirus fears. The Marathon had been set for April 20; organizers are targeting a fall date.

BOSTON — The Boston Marathon was postponed amid fears of the new coronavirus. Race organizers are now looking to reschedule one of the world's largest races to the fall.
The announcement came Thursday afternoon. The Marathon was scheduled for April 20.
The Boston Athletic Association said earlier in the morning it was discussing options for what is a "rapidly evolving" situation.

"The @BAA continues to meet & work closely with city & state officials involved in the Boston Marathon," Boston Marathon officials tweeted. "Our collective priority is the health & safety of residents, participants & all who come to MA for this worldwide event. This is rapidly evolving & details will be forthcoming."
The statement came the morning after President Trump instituted a 30-day European travel ban. The Marathon sees many international runners, including from Europe.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and Gov. Charlie Baker both said they are keeping an eye on the Marathon situation. Walsh said the event infuses more than $200 million into the local economy but said residents' health and safety was his top priority.
