Traffic Jam: Woman Gives Birth in Ambulance
EMTs delivered the baby on the ramp to Storrow Drive.
A baby was in a rush to come into the world.
So much so that it couldn’t wait to get to the hospital - and was born in the back of a Cataldo Ambulance on the 93 off-ramp to Storrow Drive.
Just before midnight on Monday, fire officials responded to a car that had caught on fire on the ramp off Exit 26, according to State Police.

As firefighters were trying to extinguish the fire, a man in one of the cars stuck in traffic approached a trooper saying his wife was about to give birth.
The woman was having contractions 30 seconds apart when the police called the Boston Emergency Medical Services.

“The Cataldo EMTs who delivered the baby did a superb job,” said State Police spokesman Dave Procopio.
“It is always special for our troopers when they are present for, and assist at, the birth of a new life into this world. So many of the things we see are bad news, so to be there for something like this is uplifting.”
The father got back into his car planning to follow the ambulance, but the baby wasn’t waiting. Troopers called the father, who was present for the special moment.
The new family - from Lynnfield - was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital.
