Boston City Council Seat Won By 1 Vote After Recount
Julia Mejia was awarded the fourth and final at-large seat with 22,492 votes. Her closest opponent, Alejandra St. Guillen, had 22,491.
BOSTON — Julia Mejia's spot in the fourth and final at-large Boston City Council seat was confirmed via recount, with the final margin coming down to one vote. Mejia's closest opponent was Alejandra St. Guillen, who initially finished eight votes back. The recount trimmed her deficit by seven, leaving her on the wrong side of a razor-thin difference, 22,492-22,491.
The Board of Election voted to allow one previously rejected ballot, but not another. It was not clear if those ballots favored either — or both — candidates.
Mejia and St. Guillen both petitioned for a citywide recount, which was the first since the 2001 City Council race.
