Boston Fire Department Sends Support to Orlando

After the Orlando shooting, Boston Fire is lending a hand.

Boston, MA - Boston Fire is lending a hand to its brothers in Orlando, the city fire department said Monday.

Following Sunday's mass shooting in Orlando, Florida, the Boston Fire Department said Monday it has received a request for assistance from the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) through Local 718 for help in Orlando.

Two Peer Support Firefighter Councilors from Boston will join a team responding to Sunday's horrific shooting. The councilors will work with firefighters from the Orlando, Orange County and Seminole County Fire Departments.

"They left this morning and will be going to work later today," Boston Fire said in a series of social media posts. "Their mission is to listen to and talk with the firefighters who responded and provide help and guidance if asked."

Firefighters and other first responders in Orlando are coping after encountering a bloody scene early Sunday morning at Orlando gay club, Pulse. More than 100 were killed or injured by a gunman, who himself died in a firefight with federal authorities.

The connection between Boston and Orlando is unfortunately easy to trace. According to federal authorities, the Orlando gunman invoked the Boston Marathon bombers, who struck here in 2013. Federal authorities have identified the latest attack as another deadly act of domestic terrorism.
