The Boston Food Journal Founder Brittany DiCapua's City Guide

This South End resident, entrepreneur and foodie knows how to eat her way around Boston — check out her favorite spots in town!

The Boston Food Journal founder Brittany DiCapua has always appreciated one-of-a-kind cuisine. Raised in a family where food was a representation of love, DiCapua knew she wanted to find a way to fuse her entrepreneurial skills and creativity with her love of food. When she created her company — a social media marketing platform representing restaurateurs across New England — she was able to do just that.

DiCapua spends her days collaborating with top Boston restaurants like Stone and Skillet, Boston Chai Party and Jugos Boston, making her a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the latest and greatest food in town. Luckily we were able to pick her brain on where to eat and drink in the city and find out some of her other favorite destinations around Beantown.

From the trendy boutiques on Newbury Street to the most romantic date restaurant, here are DiCapua's must-visit spots in Boston.

Describe Boston in three words: Spunky, historic, New England

Best sushi: Uni and Empire

Best Italian food: Coppa, SRV, and Abbondanza Ristorante

Best dessert: Modern Pastry — I always go for the lobster claw. I also love donuts, and Boston has a ton of fabulous donut shops (all are too good to name just one favorite).

Best pizza: I am a big fan of Picco, which is conveniently just up the street from my apartment.

Best spot for a quick lunch: Honeygrow

Best food truck: Cookie Monstah

Best spot for a romantic date: Sonsie. This is where my boyfriend asked me out!

Best Sunday brunch: Bostonia Public House

Best spot for a power business meeting: Tatte Bakery

Best cup of coffee: The Wholy Grain — I get my coffee here almost every morning.

Best steak: Grill 23 & Bar is my happy place. I usually celebrate my birthdays here.

Best craft cocktail: A few favorites— Wink & Nod, Tiger Mama, Red Lantern, or Drink.

What hotel would you recommend for your out of town guests? I have a few: The Lenox Hotel, The Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel, or The Langham Boston.

Favorite shopping venue or boutique: I’m a huge fan of LIT Boutique - I go in almost every weekend. Boston has a ton of cute shops, and some others I love include Olives & Grace, Flock, and Shake The Tree.

Best gym or fitness studio: I don’t have a gym membership (I’m working on it!), but I’d say some of Boston’s finest gyms are Equinox and all Boston Sports Clubs.

Favorite charity event or organization: The Greater Boston Food Bank. They put on some awesome events each year. My favorite is their Super Hunger Brunch event where proceeds from participating Boston restaurants are donated to the GBFB food fund.

What’s the best museum or current exhibit in Boston? The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

Best iconic Boston landmark to see or explore: Putting aside the touristy stuff, my favorite place is right where I live — The South End. It’s filled with gorgeous, historic brownstones, small shops, wonderful restaurants, and the happiest people.

What’s your all-time favorite spot in Boston? In my spare time I can be found on Newbury Street, most likely shopping and eating. I’d say Newbury is one of my favorite spots to hang!

The best aspect of Boston is: Everything! The people, the food, the beauty, the architecture, the opportunity. I am a New England girl and Boston is the perfect mix of city and home.
