Boston Fourth of July Events Lineup

Where better to celebrate Independence Day than Boston?

The city has a list of tonight's events (below), and notes that times are approximate. Also included is this year's tentative schedule for the Boston Pops' annual Fourth of July performance and fireworks, which will also be broadcast live on national and local television.

9 a.m. - Official celebration begins at City Hall Plaza with a flag-raising ceremony

9:20 a.m. - The marching units and dignitaries assemble and proceed from City Hall Plaza to Tremont Street

9:30 a.m. - The procession halts at the Old Granary Burial Ground where Sam Adams, John Hancock, Peter Faneuil and Robert Treat Paine are honored, then continues to Bromfield Street to Washington Street to the Old State House

9:40 a.m. - The Declaration of Independence is read at the Old State House balcony, from which the Declaration of Independence was first read to Bostonians in 1776

10 a.m. - Procession reforms from Congress Street to North Street and ends at Faneuil Hall

10:15 a.m. - Patriotic Exercises at Faneuil Hall, Remarks, Oration and Patriotic Musical Selections

1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. - There will be multiple dramatic readings of the Declaration of Independence throughout the day, led by a costumed interpreter, at 193 Salem St.

8:30 p.m.- Boston Pops concert begins at the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade

10:30 p.m. - Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular begins

11 p.m. - Fireworks end
