'Boston Globe Endorses Trump' Fake is Fooling Supporters

Check your sources, Twitter.

In further proof people rarely read what they retweet, dozens of Donald Trump supporters are eagerly sharing a coveted new endorsement -- The Boston Globe's.

Problem is, the Globe couldn't be further from endorsing Trump, a potential presidential candidate the paper has taken unprecedented steps to bash. Tell that to some Trump supporters on Twitter, however, and it might come as a surprise.

A fake news site is seeing plenty of shares on a story with the eyebrow-raising headline, "Boom! THE BOSTON GLOBE ENDORSES DONALD TRUMP! Another major newspaper! Thank you, Globe!"

The false headline is based off this parody Globe front page first shared on Twitter by an avowed Trump supporter:

Even a cursory glance makes clear it's a parody. Other "articles" include takedowns of Ted Cruz, Hillary Clinton, and even Globe editor-in-chief Brian McGrory, who's quoted as asking, "My career is tanking. How can I be more successful like you, Donald?"

The parody is convincingly executed, assuming you don't read a word it says. Unfortunately, that seems to be the case on Political Site News, which published the "Globe endorses" story Monday.

Tough to tell on the Internet, of course, but there's no trace of irony in the story comments section or in the shares it's seen on Twitter. Commenters on Political Site News seemingly sincerely thank the Globe for its endorsement.

Writes one commenter, "WOW! THAT"S GREAT THANK YOU BOSTON GLOB! now I'll buy your paper Vote #TRUMP"

As they say on the Internet: SMH. Check your sources, people.
