Residents can now enroll in Boston's free curbside food waste pickup program, which kicks off in August 2022.
BOSTON — A new program that will pick up food waste from Boston residents' doorsteps launched Thursday, Mayor Michelle Wu announced.
Starting in August 2022, the City of Boston will offer free curbside food waste collection to residents who opt in. Space is limited, but if you live in a building in Boston with 6 or fewer units, you can sign up now.
Not eligible? No sweat. Compost drop off locations are available around the city.

The service is part of the Zero Waste Boston initiative, launched in 2018. By 2035, the city hopes 80% of its waste will be diverted to recycling and composting, Mayor Wu said.
