BOSTON — Kenya's Benson Kipruto has been crowned the men's winner of the Boston Marathon after breaking the tape at just 2 hours, 9 minutes, 51 seconds, while Diana Kipyogei takes the winning spot for the women's race. This marks the eighth Kenyan sweep of the two marquee races since 2000.

The marathon, which took place Monday morning after it was delayed by the pandemic, returned with socially distanced spectators and various COVID-19 protocols. The weather started off shaky with a light drizzle, but the rain soon dispersed and runners competed in a cool 60 degrees.

Marcel Hug of Switzerland took the winning spot of the men’s wheelchair race earlier after making a wrong term in the final mile, finishing the detoured route in just seven seconds off his course record in 1:08:11. Manuela Schär, also from Switzerland, won the women’s wheelchair race in 1:35:21, reports AP.
