Boston Police Chief Finishes 50th Marathon

Three cheers and plenty of Gatorade for Boston Chief of Police, William Evans.

Boston, MA - He'd have liked it to have been even sooner, but Boston Police Chief William Evans is just happy to have completed his 50th marathon this weekend.

This April's Boston Marathon would have been the chief's milestone run, but he opted out of the race in order to oversee security.

“As much as I would’ve loved to run Boston, I just couldn’t do it," Evans said in the release, noting the city's safety was his priority.

Hitting the big 50 has been on Evans' bucket list for some time, the release said, and he found it "especially gratifying." He has no regrets that it wasn't in Boston.

"I love the Boston Marathon," he said in the release. "But today was a great day."

Evans finished the Shipyard Maine Coast Marathon marathon in 3 hours and 39 minutes, coming in 143rd. The 26.2-mile course runs from Kennebunk to Biddeford, ME.

Evans' reaction, according to a BPD news release -- "Not bad for an old guy."
