Boston Police Officer Shot In Dorchester, Saved By Vest, Suspect In Custody

BOSTON - A Boston police officer was shot in Dorchester Monday night and a suspect has been arrested. The officer was struck in his bulletproof vest and is expected to be OK.

The shooting happened on Esmond Street at about 9:30 p.m. Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox said officers responded to the area after receiving a 911 call for a person with a gun.

"As officers approached, the suspect actually fired one round, hitting the officer in the chest," Cox said. "The other officers were able to arrest the suspect."
