BOSTON — A woman is in the hospital Tuesday after she walked out into traffic and got hit by a car on Frontage Road, police said.

At 7:07 a.m., State Police got a report that a woman had been hit by a car near the Boston Transportation Department facility entrance. The pedestrian, a 39-year-old Boston woman, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was transported to Boston Medical Center, where she is in stable condition.

Police said a 49-year-old Dorchester woman was driving her 2019 Toyota Camry in the regular flow of traffic and had a green light when the woman walked out into traffic where there was no crosswalk, about 100 yards from the intersection.

Police interviewed the driver and an independent witness, who told them the woman walked suddenly and without warning into the travel lane in front of the Camry. An off-duty Boston Police officer who happened to be in the area right after the crash helped give first aid to the woman at the scene until Boston EMS arrived.

State Police are still investigating and are not releasing any other information at this time.
