Cancellations, Delays Continue At Boston's Logan Airport

Airlines are hoping the problem will ease after this week's announcement from the CDC that cut the isolation time for COVID-19 patients.

As of 9:30 a.m. Thursday, 52, or 6.4 percent, of 814 flights to and from Logan International Airport had been canceled in the previous 24 hours. Dozens of others had been delayed as airlines tried to shuffle flight crews.

BOSTON — Travelers at Logan International Airport were bracing for another day of upended itineraries as major U.S. airlines canceled dozens of flights to and from the airport for a seventh straight day.

As of 9:30 a.m. Thursday, 52, or 6.4 percent, of 814 flights to and from Logan International Airport had been canceled in the previous 24 hours. Dozens of others had been delayed as airlines tried to shuffle flight crews. That was down only slightly from Sunday, when 54 flights from Logan were canceled.

Nationally, there were 1,052 flight cancellations for flights to, from or within the United States and 1,105 delays, according to air travel tracking Website FlightAware. Major U.S. airlines have attributed the problem to the surge of coronavirus cases across the nation that have forced their employees to call in sick.

Airlines are hoping the problem will ease after this week's announcement from the U.S. Centers For Disease Control & Prevention that cut the isolation time for people infected with COVID-19 by half. But it's unclear if that changed would offer enough relief before Sunday, which officials expect to be the busiest travel day of the holiday week.
