City Landmarks Shine Blue for Injured Officers

BOSTON, MA — As the two Boston Police officers injured in last week's East Boston shooting recover from a second round of surgery, two city landmarks blazed blue in their honor this weekend.

City Hall made use of its new LED exterior light fixtures last week to pay tribute to the fallen officers:

The officers, Matt Morris and Richard Cintolo were fired upon by a suspect in an Orient Heights domestic incident late Wednesday night. Boston Police subsequently shot and killed the gunman.

It's also a reminder of one way police said average citizens can honor officers' sacrifice.

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans later said that donated blood helped save the life of at least one of the officers, and the Boston Police Patrolmen's Association reportedly plans to organize a blood drive in the wake of the shooting.
