The state reported 65 new coronavirus-related deaths in its first update since officials laid out the roadmap for reopening the economy, a plan that relies heavily on the health trends highlighted in the daily report. The number of deaths has risen to 5,862.

The update from the Department of Public Health showed 1,042 new confirmed cases in 8,373 tests, an infection rate of more than 12 percent a day after it hit an all-time low of about 8 percent.

Monday's report came two hours late due to a new format that color-coded and highlighted the metrics Gov. Charlie Baker's administration is watching most closely.
