The number of COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized continued to plummet in the state's daily update, but the death toll showed little sign of slowing.

Another 113 Massachusetts residents died due to the coronavirus, bringing the total to 5,705, according the Department of Public Health. There were 1,512 new cases confirmed via 12,410 tests, a 12 percent infection rate that is holding steady with the past week of numbers.

The number of COVID-19 hospitalizations fell to 2,692, the fewest since the state started counting suspected cases — and nearly down to the level it was before they started counting them.
