Can you imagine waking up in the morning to find that a herd of cows had wandered onto your property and indulged in a midnight snack of your bushes? Ben and Stacey, residents of Taunton, Massachusetts, sure can.
If it weren’t for the couple’s Ring Floodlight Cam, they would have woken up to a front yard filled with footprints, broken branches — and zero explanation. But thanks to their Ring Protect subscription, they were able to open up the Ring App and see what happened during the night while they were asleep — several cows strolled up to their home to chow down on their landscaping.

“We actually watched the video before we even knew the mess was outside. We hadn’t gone out yet,” says Ben. “So we saw the video and then that's when we went out and checked it out.”

Amused by the unexpected sight, “the first thing we did was post [the Ring video] on Instagram because we knew it was pretty unique, and everyone there got a big laugh about it,” Ben recalls.
What the hilarious video doesn’t show is what chaos a group of cows can cause. “There were big footprints all over the lawn, like cow prints,” says Ben. “And then they left behind a little bit of a mess. There were branches that they were eating that were all over the place. And then they pooped all over the yard, too.”
Although Ben and Stacey did spend the next day cleaning up, they were thankful that their Ring security camera gave them an idea of what had transpired. “If we had gone out the next morning and not had the Ring, we would have definitely been curious what exactly had happened, because our yard was such a mess,” says Ben. “[Ring Floodlight Cam] definitely provides us with some peace of mind, and makes us feel a little bit more secure in our house and know what exactly is going on, whether it's cows or a person.”
Ben and Stacey later found out from neighbors that the cows had actually escaped from a pen at a farm about a mile down the road from their house. “We're not really in an area where you'd expect cows roaming around. We're just in a normal suburban town,” says Ben. “So it was definitely a little bit of a shock to see them just walk up to our driveway.”
The next day, Ben and Stacey decided to check out the farm for themselves. And to their surprise, the runaway cows were back in their pen. “Not sure how they got back, but they got back,” says Ben.
