CVS To Open 10 New Drive-Thru Coronavirus Testing Sites In MA

MASSACHUSETTS — CVS Health is planning to open 10 new coronavirus testings sites across Massachusetts Friday.

CVS is making a push to open 1,000 testing sites open across the U.S. by the end of May, with the capacity to handle 1.5 million tests per month. The 10 new testing sites in Massachusetts will offer self-swab tests, and instructions and patients will administer the test themselves in the drive-thru lane, while a CVS pharmacy staff member watches to make sure it's done properly. Test results will be ready within three days, according to the company.

Rhode Island-based CVS opened one of the first coronavirus testing sites in Shrewsbury in March. The site initially served only first responders and people older than 65. Then in April, CVS closed it when they opened a large-scale rapid testing site in Lowell.

CVS Health plans to have as many as 1,000 test sites across the country offering this service by the end of May, with the goal of processing up to 1.5 million tests per month. The 10 test sites in Massachusetts are part of the first rollout, which includes 51 sites in Arizona, Connecticut, Florida and Pennsylvania. Urgent care businesses such as AFC Urgent Care and PhysicianOne Urgent care have both been pushing out drive-thru testing across the state, as well.

Anyone who is interested in the testing must register with CVS before getting tested.
