BOSTON — Despite pleas from experts to stay home for Thanksgiving, fewer than 50 million Americans are expected to take the risk and travel anyway, most by car.
Mass Pike rest areas were full of out-of-state parents scooping up college students. “Because of the pandemic, we don’t want to send him on the bus this year,” said Scott Perlowin, who came in from New Jersey. “I’m picking up my daughter in Boston, we’re going back to Westchester,” said Sue Shultis.
“Stay home. That’s the safest choice,” said AAA spokesperson Mary Maguire. She says the agency expected pandemic holiday travel to be the lowest it’s been since the 2008 recession.
