East Boston Assaults: Patrols Stepped Up After Fatal Attack

Police are seeking the public's assistance following two Belle Isle Marsh attacks, one of which took the life of 83-year-old Daniel Pepe.

Boston, MA - Two men were attacked at the Belle Isle Marsh Reservation this week, one of whom died, putting state police on alert in the area, which lies along the Revere-East Boston line.

State troopers and detectives are investigating the dual assaults and stepping up patrols in the area, effective immediately.

An attack Wednesday followed a similar incident three days earlier. That first attack caused injuries severe enough to kill 83-year-old Daniel Pepe, of East Boston, according to state police. Pepe died at Mass. General Hospital Wednesday.

In a joint press release with the Suffolk County District Attorney's office, state police said they are investigating whether the second assault is related to the deadly attack on Pepe. The second victim was a Lynn man, 67, who was walking in the reservation Wednesday. He suffered non-life threatening injuries, and was able to describe his assailant to investigators.

Per his description, the assailant is a white male in his late 20s or 30s, approximately 5’9” tall and wearing a hat, t-shirt and shorts that were all beige or brown in color. Due to the severity of his injuries, Pepe was unable to describe his attacker to police before his death.
