BOSTON — Broadcast meteorologist Mish Michaels, an on-air reporter for multiple news stations across Boston, died Wednesday night, a family friend confirmed on Facebook.
"It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved Mish Michaels," the family said in a statement. "Our family is devasted by her loss."
Michaels started her career in New Hampshire before making it to Boston where she got a job at WHDH-TV Channel 7 News before turning to WBZ-TV CBS Boston and eventually the Weather Channel.

The statement did not reveal the cause of the 53-year-old's death. Michaels was living in Wellesley at the time.
"She was a devoted mother, wife, daughter, auntie, friend and stellar equestrian, as well as an award-winning broadcast meteorologist and environmental reporter," the statement read. "Mish had the ability to brighten up every room she entered. Her professional success was monumental, but so was her commitment to helping others through her philanthropic work."

WBZ meteorologist Terry Eliasen wrote a heartfelt statement on behalf of WBZ Wednesday saying, "In a field dominated by men for decades, Mish was determined to pave the way for women meteorologists, not just here in Boston, but throughout the country," Eliasen wrote. "She was the most prepared, diligent, and dedicated meteorologist that I have ever worked with. She elevated and inspired those around her. Mish could have done anything she wanted."
Funeral arrangements will be announced once they are finalized, but the family asked that its privacy be respected during this time.
