Four M-A-S-S-A-C-H-U-S-E-T-T-S Students Compete in National Spelling Bee
Bust out your dictionaries and cheer on our students from Boston, Still River, Danvers and West Tisbury.
Boston, MA - Bust out those dictionaries and tune in to ESPN 3 this week to cheer on the four Massachusetts students competing in the 2016 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Only one Massachusetts student has won the National Spelling Bee since its inception in 1925, according to the Scripps site.
Here are this year's Bay State competitors:

- Emily J. Sun: age 13, 7th grade, Boston Latin School, Boston
- Lela Ann Festa: age 14, 8th grade, Immaculate Heart of Mary School, Still River
- Mitchell A. Robson: age 14, 8th grade, St. John's Preparatory School, Danvers
- Sam Fetters: age 11, 6th grade, West Tisbury School, West Tisbury
Preliminary rounds start today in National Harbor, MD, and the final competition gets underway Thursday morning.
Last year's competition saw a tie, with two winning words: "cherenschnitte" and "nunatak."
