11 Injured In Green Line Derailment Near Kenmore

The MBTA said it is launching a full investigation, in the meantime there are severe delays on the Green Line because of the derailment.

BOSTON, MA — A Green Line D train derailed in a tunnel near Kenmore Station on Saturday, injuring 11 people. The MBTA's Steve Poftak told reporters during a press conference Saturday there would be a full investigation into just what happened.

Boston EMS officials said a total of 11 people were evaluated after the derailment. Ten passengers were taken to hospitals with varying injuries. However, none of the injuries are considered to be life-threatening, according to EMS officials.

Firefighters had to carry multiple people out on stoke baskets from the tunnel where the derailment occurred. Photos at the scene show people walking out of the tunnel from the tracks.

The agency said there are severe delays and are asking passengers to take other forms of transportation. Shuttle buses are replacing eastbound service between Cleveland Circle and Kenmore on the Green Line C. Westbound service will run from North Station to Kenmore.

Eastbound service on the Green Line D will end at Fenway and westbound service will end at Kenmore. Shuttle buses are replacing service between Kenmore and Fenway.
