Impaired Driver Strikes And Kills Woman Near 'Mass & Cass': DA
A man from Bellingham hit a 59-year-old woman and injured two others on the side of the road while driving under the influence.
BOSTON — A woman was hit and killed by a Bellingham man driving under the influence near Massachusetts Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard over the weekend.
Police say the driver, Kevin McCaffrey, 46, of Bellingham, was driving so fast the impact left two other pedestrians injured and Lisa Vadeboncoeur, 59, dead.
A police report filed after the incident revealed McCaffrey was seen falling asleep and nodding off when detectives tried to interview him. In the report, McCaffrey admitted to taking cocaine before driving to try to stay awake.

This accident happened close to Boston's "Methadone Mile," an area near Massachusetts General Hospital that Acting Boston Mayor Kim Janey declared a public health crisis for homelessness and drug addiction Tuesday while revealing plans to help remove the tents that currently fill both sides of the street in that area.
McCaffrey was ordered to be held without bail in the Roxbury Division of Boston Municipal Court Wednesday. McCaffrey is facing charges of motor vehicle homicide by operating under the influence of drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

"Ms. Vadeboncoeur and the two other individuals injured in this crash were standing well off the side of the road when they were struck. My office has been in contact with each of the victims and the loved ones of Ms. Vadeboncoeur,' said District Attorney Rachael Rollins in a statement. "We will continue to be available to provide them and the two surviving victims with the support and resources they may need and that they deserve."
