Three Injured After Collapse At Former Power Plant In Boston

BOSTON — Two people were taken to the hospital and a third is still trapped after a floor collapsed Wednesday at the former Edison Power Plant on Summer Street in South Boston.

Emergency crews responded to 776 Summer Street around 1:45 p.m. requesting additional backup.

Boston Fire Commissioner John Dempsey said more than 100 firefighters were brought in to help rescue workers after the floor collapsed inside the old Edison power plant.

According to a tweet, there was a reported wall collapse, trapping at least three workers, one from the legs down, and two were being evaluated by Boston EMS.

Boston EMS confirmed two people were taken to the hospital with personnel currently providing care to a third patient.

After two and a half hours of working to free the trapped man, Commissioner Dempsey said he was finally freed, but was facing life-threatening injuries.

There has been no word on the extent of the injuries of the other two.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is responding to the scene.
